With about a third of the student population, Joensuu is a vibrant and calm capital of North Karelia. It is one of Finland’s most vibrant cities. You might be able to attend the annual Ilosaarirock Festival, which is the most important event that attracts a big number of national and worldwide pop and rock performers, depending on when you visit.
The settlement of Joensuu, often known as the River Mouth, was created in 1848 by Russian Czar Nikolai I. Since then, it has developed into North Karelia’s regional capital and second-largest city. When the Saimaa Canal was completed in 1870, one of the key reasons for its growth was improved water commerce. The town has developed a thriving regional commercial network that connects it to St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Caspian and Black Seas via the Volga.
The city attracts large crowds of young Finns who come to participate in the open Ilosaarirock Festival in July. Folk music fans should also check out Kilhaus, which is only 30 kilometers away. A few things to do in Joensuu include the following.
Botania is a tropical butterfly park and botanical garden in the heart of nature that offers a variety of activities. Because of the tropical temps and vegetation in Botania, you’ll have the impression of being in a tropical country without really flying there. Residents of the tropics, such as the Amazon parrots Iimari and Lasse and the sulfur-crested cockatoo Juuso, can be found in the tropical area. Botania is one of the most interesting places to visit in Joensuu.
Available for rent at Lomarengas.
