The log cabin is conveniently located within a half-hour of Asheville’s and Gatlinburg, Tennessee’s shopping, dining, and entertainment, as well as the Cherokee Casino (25 minutes away). The year 1789 was chosen by the proprietors to honor the year North Carolina was admitted to the Union as a state. The chinking log house architecture of the log cabin gives off an air of antiquity, yet the conveniences of today make you feel perfectly at home.

Families and friends looking for a less crowded and more authentic mountain getaway can find what they’re looking for in North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains. What’s great about this cabin is that you can enjoy the great outdoors while still being within 9 minutes of some truly exceptional dining and retail options. Two (maybe three) parking spaces are available directly in front of the chalet. There’s a three-minute stretch of gravel road at the beginning of the journey up to the cabin. AWD or 4WD is recommended by the owners for both comfort and safety, while the drive is not very challenging.

If you plan to spend your vacation in Sylvia hiking, you should definitely bring your hiking boots. The Jackson County Ale Trail is the only local hiking path that remains entertaining when the sun goes down. Sylva’s thriving brewery culture is the starting point for what has been termed one of the Top 10 American Brewery Tours. Along Sylva’s Old Main Street, you can sample a wide variety of the more than 100 beers available there. Or, you can get the recommended top 10 local beers off the trail’s official field guide. These breweries often feature local musicians and hold other events.

Water-based outdoor pursuits are plentiful in the immediate vicinity of town thanks to the Great Smoky Mountains’ proximity to the water. There are many waterfalls in Panthertown Valley, which is located in Nantahala National Forest. Visit the well-known Schoolhouse Falls, Greenland Creek Falls, Wilderness Falls, or Frolictown Falls to have a refreshing swim in one of our mountain streams.
