More than two million acres of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests are available for exploration by anyone. The Mogollon Rim and its eight cold-water lakes are a popular destination for desert dwellers. At the Rim’s viewing spots, which are located at an elevation of around 7,600 feet, visitors can take in breathtaking panoramas over the lowlands to the south. Its size, at two million acres, ensures that visitors of all interests will find something to enjoy. “God’s Country” is the common name for this area.
Specifically, Zane Grey is responsible for the widespread recognition of the Mogollon Rim. Ponderosa pine gives the White Mountains their lush green color, and the cold rivers that flow from the mountains soothe the landscape all the way down to the lowlands below and beyond. It’s a beautiful place to get some exercise in, and the rewards will be worth the effort. Restorative on many levels, including the spiritual.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is responsible for the management of the 1,362-acre Sipe White Mountain Wildlife Area. There are a number of small paths, as well as archaeological and historical sites and a visitor’s center. This land, which was bought in 1993, is home to several endangered species and serves as a winter range for larger animals. The visitors center features artifacts from the area’s human inhabitants, spanning the time period from 6,000 BC to 200 BC.
Some of the best hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking in the world can be found in the territory of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Hunters from all over the world travel to our house in search of a world-class Trophy Bull Elk since it is widely recognized as one of the top locations for such pursuits. In the winter, the Sunrise Park Ski Resort is a pristine, powder-covered wonderland. Sunrise is a summertime paradise, with its beautiful lift rides, Fourth of July fireworks show, epic Archery competition, and excellent fishing in Sunrise Lake and the many other lakes and streams in the area.
