Check Out This Rustic Log Cabin In Oregon

The Goose Island Cabin in Oregon, Illinois, United States, has 1 bedroom, 3 beds, and 1 bathroom. It can sleep up to 8 people. The cabin was built in 1907 on a beautiful stretch of the Rock River. It is backed by a 2,300-acre State Forest. The Goose Island Cabin gets its name from the small island that is right next to it. The cabin is in the middle of nature, but it’s only 10 minutes from the town of Oregon. You’ll have access to 60 acres of private land, 200 feet of river frontage, boating, a big yard with hammocks and games, a fire pit, a BBQ area, and a real settler’s cabin that’s rustic but well-equipped. Pets that are well-behaved are welcome, but they count as an extra guest.

On both counts, to say that the house has a rustic charm would be an understatement. Native Americans lived in the area until the 1830s. They liked how the trees were protected and how good the fishing was. In 1855, the land was given to a pioneer, and the cabin was built in 1907. Even though the cabin has been modernized with power, hot water, a bathroom/shower, and a kitchen, it still has a rustic feel. It’s a good place for hiking, biking, boating, art, a writing escape, barbecuing, yard games, hanging out in a hammock, sitting by a campfire, and sitting on the porch.

There is one bedroom, a loft, a living room with a fireplace, an 8-foot dining table, a kitchen (with stove/oven, fridge, and more), a bathroom with a shower, a porch, and a big deck. There are three full/queen beds: one in the bedroom, one in the loft, and one by the fireplace. There is also a long leather couch in the living room, two day beds by the windows, and cots or tents that can be set up on request. Several hammocks are set up between the big oak trees in the yard, which looks out over the river. The bedroom has air conditioning, and the sitting room has fans.

When you make a reservation, you’ll get directions and entry codes, and you’ll be the only one who can use the house, the riverfront, and the woods around it. White Pelican in Oregon rents out canoes and kayaks and has a bus service. There are miles of trails in the nearby Lowden-Miller State Forest and Castle Rock State Park. Cell service is usually only available through Verizon and US Cellular (AT&T is spotty), and there is no wifi. You should know that the river below can be very fast, especially when the water level is high. Please bring your beach towel with you.

The house is in Oregon, Illinois, which is one of the most peaceful and remote places you can think of. It is right next to Lowden-Miller State Forest and a beautiful part of the Rock River. It’s at the end of a winding road through the woods, but it has power and clean drinking water from an artesian well. The Nachusa Grasslands are 4 miles away and have a tallgrass grassland and wild bison preserve. Oregon, Dixon, and Franklin Grove are all cool little historic towns with shops, restaurants, and a bit of nightlife. Just down the road toward Oregon is a great little Italian restaurant called La Vigna. The gravel road leading to the house is in good shape.
